  • The vascular surgery team at Strasbourg's University Hospital Center (Prof. Nabil Chakfé and Dr. Fabien Thaveau) has a long experience in applied research projects relating to vascular prosthetics and associated biomaterials.
  • The research group has a particular interest in new endo-vascular technologies and minimally invasive robotic surgery
  •  Prof. Nabil Chakfé's team is currently developping innovative vascular implants and a cardiac valve for percutaneous implantation.

Orthopaedics

  • The orthopaedic surgery unit of the Strasbourg University Hospitals (SUH) works directly on the development of intervertebral and articular prostheses, under the direction of Prof. Jean-Paul Steib, Prof. Yann-Philippe Charles et Prof. Philippe Clavert. Prof. Jean-Paul Steib's vertebral surgery team has made great progress in perfecting replacements for lumbar and cervical discs.

ENT

  •  The Strasbourg University Hospitals are well positioned in the field of ear-nose-throat implants.
  • The ENT team headed by Prof. Christian Debry has worked for many years with different public and private partners to perfect titanium based laryngeal prosthetic devices. Testing for the implant received authorization on on January 21, 2010, and an articifial throat with titanium valve was implanted in a patient for the first time ever.

Neurology

  • Prof. Sébastien Froehlich (SUH Neurosurgery Unit) has initiated a number of innovative research projects in prosthetic devices for bone defects at the base of the skull. The goal of his work is to perfect an airtight prosthesis made of biofunctionalized porous titanium for closing osteomeningeal breaches. The project's initial results are very promising.
